Dirt Work for Homes, Shops and Acreage in Central Oregon

Every excavation job in Bend starts with the same question: what is under the topsoil? Sometimes it is sandy pumice that moves easy. Sometimes it is a shelf of lava rock two feet down. RBE Inc. has dug enough lots around Bend, Redmond, Tumalo and Sisters to read the ground before the bucket hits it, and to quote the job honestly instead of surprising you halfway through.

Most of our excavation work is residential: cutting and grading building pads for new homes, opening up ground for remodels and additions, trenching for water, power and septic lines, and shaping ponds on acreage. We also build out parking lots and gravel pads for shops and small commercial sites.

Because RBE Inc. is also a full septic contractor, we are the rare outfit that can dig the hole, set the tank, run the drain field and pump it for the next twenty years. You never get bounced between two companies.

Excavation Services We Offer in Bend

01

New Home Site Prep and Building Pads

Clearing, stripping topsoil, cutting the pad to grade and compacting it the way your builder and the county inspector want it. We work from the plans and coordinate with your general contractor so the foundation crew shows up to a site that is ready.

New builds on the east side of Bend, acreage off Highway 20 toward Tumalo, and lots in Redmond and Terrebonne are our bread and butter.

02

Grading, Leveling and Drainage

Rough grading, finish grading and reshaping ground so water runs away from the house instead of into the crawlspace. Spring melt and summer thunderstorms find every low spot on a Central Oregon lot. We fix the low spots.

03

Ponds and Water Features

Stock ponds, irrigation ponds and landscape ponds on acreage around Bend, Sisters and Prineville. We dig to the depth and shape you want, bench the banks so they hold, and leave the spoils where you can use them.

04

Remodel and Addition Excavation

Opening ground next to an existing house takes a lighter touch than a raw lot. We dig footings for additions, garages and shops, expose foundations for repairs and waterproofing, and keep the existing landscaping, utilities and septic lines intact while we do it.

05

Parking Lots, Driveways and Gravel Pads

Cutting, base rock and compaction for parking lots, long rural driveways, RV pads and equipment yards. A pad that is built right underneath does not rut, heave or turn into a pond in March.

06

Trenching and Utility Lines

Trenches for water service, power, irrigation mainlines and sewer or septic lines, dug to depth and backfilled properly. If you are bringing utilities to a new shop or a far corner of the property, we open the ground and close it back up.

07

Septic System and Drain Field Excavation

Tank holes, drain field trenches, repairs to crushed or root-damaged lines, and the excavation for a full system replacement. This is where doing both trades pays off. Read more about septic installation, repair and pumping.

An Owner-Operated Excavation Outfit, Not a Fleet

When you hire RBE Inc. for excavation in Bend, the person who quotes the job is the person who runs the machine. Ryan Barber has built the company around answering the phone, showing up when he says he will, and leaving a site cleaner than most crews find it.

We are licensed with the Oregon Construction Contractors Board, CCB #188908, and carry the bonding and insurance that license requires. Look us up on the state CCB site before you hire us. We would rather you check.

If the job turns out to need septic work, we handle that too. If it needs a surveyor, an engineer or a county permit, we will tell you straight and point you to the right people instead of pretending it does not.

FAQ / 08

Excavation Questions, Answered Straight

Can you dig through Central Oregon lava rock and hardpan?

Yes. Rock, caliche hardpan and pumice are normal conditions around Bend, Redmond and Tumalo, and we run equipment sized for them. Rock changes the time a job takes, so we look at the site before we quote rather than guessing.

How much does excavation cost in Bend, Oregon?

It depends on the size of the cut, the soil and rock on the lot, access for equipment and how much material has to be hauled off. We give a straight quote after walking the site. Call 541-280-4191 or send the project details through our contact page.

Do I need a permit for excavation or grading?

Often yes, especially for new building pads, septic systems and work near property lines or drainage. Deschutes County and the City of Bend each have their own rules. We will tell you what applies to your project and work with your builder or the county as needed.

Do you take on small excavation jobs?

Yes. A single trench, a small pond or a pad for a shop is fine. Big or small, we do it all. If it needs a machine and an operator who knows Central Oregon ground, call us.

Can you excavate for a septic system and install it too?

Yes. We do both the excavation and the septic work, so a new system or a replacement happens under one contractor instead of two. Many customers have had a full system replaced in a single day.

How soon can you start?

Call with your address and what you need dug. Scheduling depends on the season and the size of the job, but we answer the phone and give you a real date, not a maybe.
